Check your SASSA SRD status without handing your ID to a stranger's server
One tap takes you straight to the real SASSA portal. No forms on this page ever ask for your ID number or phone number, we simply guide you to the right official tool.
What a SASSA SRD status check tells you
A SASSA SRD status check confirms where your R370 grant application stands for the current month, whether it's approved, pending, or declined, and when your payment is due. SASSA re-runs the SRD R370 status check against Home Affairs, SARS, and UIF records every single cycle, which is why a result can change from approved to pending without warning. Whether you're checking your sassa status online for the first time or tracking a 2026 grant status you've held for months, the process below uses only SASSA's own official channels, never a third-party form.
Three official ways to check your status
Every method below reads from the same SASSA database, so the result will match no matter which one you use. Pick whichever suits your phone and data situation.
SASSA SRD portal
Visit srd.sassa.gov.za, choose "Check Status," and enter your ID and registered cellphone number directly on SASSA's own site. Free with data or Wi-Fi, available 24/7.
USSD, no data needed
Dial *134*7737# (SRD-specific) or *120*69277# from any phone. Works on basic feature phones and doesn't need airtime or a smartphone.
Save 082 046 8553 and send the word "Status". The official SASSA bot replies with your latest result, available around the clock.
Enter your ID number and we'll open WhatsApp with a message ready to send to SASSA's own number, 082 046 8553. Nothing is sent from this site, it only opens WhatsApp on your phone.
This opens the official SASSA SRD portal in a new tab. Have your 13-digit ID and registered phone number ready.
What each status actually means
SASSA re-verifies every applicant each month, so your status can move between these categories from one cycle to the next.
You passed all checks for the month. A payment date and channel will appear on the portal.
SASSA is cross-checking your details with Home Affairs, UIF, and SARS. Normal in the first two weeks of a cycle.
You didn't meet a requirement, most often income or deposits above the R628 threshold. You can request reconsideration within 30 days.
A high-risk mismatch was flagged, often a duplicate ID or possible fraud check. Call the toll-free line for manual review.
2026/27 payment dates
SRD payments release in batches during the last week of the month. Other grants follow a fixed three-day rolling schedule.

2026/27 amounts, previous vs current
Seven of eight permanent grants increased from 1 April 2026. The SRD grant is frozen at R370 for the third year running.
The R628 means test, and who qualifies
SASSA sweeps your bank account every month. Any deposits totalling R628 or more, from any source, disqualify you for that month.
- SA citizen, permanent resident, refugee, asylum seeker, or special-permit holder registered with Home Affairs
- Aged 18 to 59 at the start of the payment month
- Unemployed and not receiving another grant, UIF benefit, or NSFAS allowance
- No income or deposits totalling R628 or more, including once-off family transfers
- Not resident in a government-funded institution
- Valid 13-digit SA ID matching Home Affairs records exactly
- A bank account, cash-send number, or Postbank account in your own name
- Reachable on the cellphone number registered with your SRD application

Any income or bank deposits totalling R628 or more in a month disqualify you, including once-off family transfers, since the automated sweep can't tell the source apart.
